The Professional Standards Conference 2009 will be held at the Crowne Plaza, Nottingham on the 22, 23, 24th June 2009.

This years’ conference theme is focused on the continued development and enhancement of Trust and Confidence in the Police Service.  This takes account of the Home Secretary’s single target for the Police Service with the conference activities aimed at those working within the Professional Standards arena.

Key developments in misconduct arrangements and proposed changes to the complaints system will be considered, along with efforts to tackle threats to the integrity of the Police Service from corruption and vetting issues.

Over the two days, delegates will share their experiences and exchange good practice through a series of interactive plenary sessions and fringe groups.

The plenary sessions and fringe groups will include:

  • Substance Misuse and Domestic Violence in the Police Service;
  • Information leakage and emerging threats;
  • The use of 'background briefings' by the Police Service;
  • The New Vetting Policy and Prevention in the Vetting Arena;
  • Disclosure- Chapter 18; Cautions and Convictions;  and the searching of database for 'Policing Purposes'
  • The Taylor pilots and IPCC Performance Indicators.
  • The role of APA and PIMS
